    • Tee ball players will be placed on teams rather than go through evaluation.  There is no guarantee of team placement.  Due to feedback from parents and coaches, we are exploring the potential of having 4 years olds play in a separate "wee ball" league instead of playing with 5 and 6 year olds. More information to come after reviewing the number of 4-6 year olds who register.
  • Every league is tentatively scheduled to play their first game the week of April 9, 2012.

SLYB Board of Directors voted to implement the following due to changes outside our control:

  • Anyone wanting to work in the concession stand must now obtain a Food Handler Permit.  Food Handler Testing consists of viewing a 15 minute food safety video and completion of a short test.  Testing is offered Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 4:00PM at the Environmental Health Office located at 804 Newtown Circle.  Permit cost is $10 and is good for 3 years.  Call (859) 231-9791 X245 for more information.
  • Due to the Food Handler Permit requirement, a concession buyout of ($25) is now payable at the time of registration.  This buyout will replace the concession work requirement for each family and buyout process which was between $40-$50 per player.  Those who want to work can still do so but must have a valid Food Handler Permit and pay the concession buyout during registration.  More details on how to sign-up to work concessions will be provided later.
  • A reduction in LFUCG's Parks and Recreation Budget for field preparation supplies (quick-dry, marking dust, etc) resulted in the need to raise registration fees across all leagues by $5.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who has to attend the Major & Minor evaluations?

All 9, 10, 11, & 12 year olds not currently assigned to a Minor or Major League team must attend an evaluation for the Major & Minor Leagues.  Also, it is recommended that Minor League players interested in playing in the Major League attend the evaluations. Those players not drafted by a Major League team will be drafted by a Minor League team unless already drafted by a Minor League team.

If my son/daughter wants to try out of Major League, which fee should I pay?

We suggest the Minor League fee be paid initially.  If the player is drafted for the Major League, the difference between Major and Minor League fees will be collected at that time.

Can I request my child be placed with a specific coach or on a particular team in Tee-Ball or Rookie Leagues?

There is no guarantee for player placement.  This allows teams to be balanced.

Is there a family child discount?

Yes.  When registering on-line, there is a discount of $10 off one player's fee if more than 1 child is playing in the league.

My child is a returning player to the Rookie League this year.  Does he/she have to attend the evaluation?

Yes, returning Rookie League players must go through evaluation.  This allows teams to be balanced.
Boundary Change - Woodford County Residents

Due to recent changes within Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken's Districts, Woodford County residents must play in Woodford County's Cal Ripken League.  Woodford County's Cal Ripken contact is AJ Kelty @ 494-8327.  However, any player from Woodford County that played last year in SLYB is eligible to continue playing at SLYB.  Additionally, returning players' siblings are also eligible to play at SLYB.  If you have a question or concern about your eligibility, please send an email to slyb@insightbb.com
