SLYB News and Updates - 5/24/2010

SLYB FUN DAY - Saturday, May 29th - 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday, May 29 is date for SLYB’s always popular Fun Day and all its many activities for both adults and the players. Fun Day activities are being planned for the players in all SLYB divisions and adults will want to participant in the Silent Auction and other events scheduled for the day. Also, for the Major League players is the Home Run Derby which is detailed below.

Major League Home Run Derby:

The Major League Home Run Derby will Saturday, May 29 on Field #1 at 5 pm. The details of the competition are as follows:

Each Major League team will have at least one participant. Any player with 5 or more home runs during the 2010 season is invited to participate. Teams may have more than 1 player participate as long as the participant meets the 5 home run qualifier. The Manager of any team which does not have a 5 home run qualifier will select 1 participant from his team to participate (usually a 12-year-old). All participants must supply an adult pitcher. The competition will consist of two rounds. 10 outs per round. Every swing is either a home run or an out. Top 2 (and ties) in the opening round advance to the finals. Any ties in the final round will be broken by a 3-out slug out.

Keep going with the 3-out segments until we have a winner.

Fun Day work schedules were distributed. Schedules need to be turned in on Wednesday, May 26^th 5:30 – 7:00 near the old concession stand or email to mcfarland@insightbb.com.

This year, we are inviting more vendors to participate. If you or someone you know is interested in setting up a booth, please contact Tammy Henry at 859-285-7070 ASAP. Participation is $50. Vendors must provide their own table(s) and tent (optional).

Charity Blood Drive:

SLYB is participating again this year in the S&S Tire Charity Challenge
Blood Drive. In addition to donating your own blood, please pass the word
to family and friends asking them to donate blood during the month of May on
behalf on SLYB.   When they mention our name, we earn points in the Charity
Challenge.   The charity with the most points will win $3500.   We came in
5th place last year; let's shoot for 1st place this year.   We are currently
in 10th place.

If you can't make it to the KY Blood center to donate, please consider
donating on May 22 when the blood mobile comes to our park.

SLYB Reds Day is Sunday, June 13th against the Kansas City Royals. The deadline for ordering and paying for tickets is Sunday, May 30th. Click on the link above for the order form and more information.

Saturday, May 22 from 10am –12pm & 3:30pm – 6pm
Saturday, May 29 from 11am – 4pm.

Many games made up:

Because so many worked so hard tarping and working fields last week, many games lost to previous rain and wet grounds were made up. Following, by division, is current re-scheduling.

MINOR LEAGUE

The Tigers vs Royals game postponed Mon 5/17 will be re-scheduled to be played between 5/25-5/28. Opposing Managers have been advised of this and when to anticipate the re-scheduling time and playing date. Weather this week will determine the exact date.
