District Tournaments up next: District 4 Tournament play begins this week. SLYB’s 9 and 10-year-old Red teams will be in action starting Wednesday 7/7 at Veterans Park. The 11 and 12-year-old Red teams do not compete in the district play because SLYB is hosting the East Kentucky State Tournament in these two age groups beginning July 14 and these teams get an automatic berth in the State. http://www.eastkybrl.com/ 17 former SLYB Players named to All-City baseball teams: Seventeen former South Lexington Youth Baseball players were named to All-City high school baseball teams which were selected by Lexington’s high school coaches. Six of the former SLYB players were named to the first team. Here is breakdown with the SLYB Major League team name at the time the players were in the league in parenthesis: FIRST TEAM: Logan Shaftner (White Sox); Tanner Lockard (Mariners-now Astros); Nick Fergerson (Rebels-now Orioles); and Johnny Youngblood (Braves) all of Lafayette. Taylor Martin (White Sox) of Lexington Catholic; and Ryan Fucci (White Sox) of Tates Creek. SECOND TEAM: Brent Cobb (Royals) of Lafayette; Clay Mossbarger (Cardinals) of LCA; and Brad Harp (Rebels) of Dunbar. HONORABLE MENTION: Jason Fibel (Royals); Chris Graves (Braves) and Chad Warner (Cardinals) all of Lafayette; Tyler Cox (Rebels) of Dunbar; and Michael Lyon (A’s) of LCA. ACADEMIC: Brett Durbin (Reds) and Chad Warner (Cardinals) of Lafayette; Drew Walls (White Sox) of LCA; and Austin Meek (Cubs) of Dunbar. SLYB Teams in Tournaments: Following is information on all SLYB League and City Tournaments: MAJOR LEAGUE The Royals won the SLYB tournament and the SLYB Reds won the City Tournament. JUNIOR MAJOR The Bats won the SLYB tournament. MINOR LEAGUE The Nationals won the SLYB tournament. ROOKIE LEAGUE The Orioles won the SLYB tournament and also won the City Tournament. TEE BALL The Red Sox won the SLYB tournament.
